Oxford Deaf Festival

On Friday 26th and Saturday 27th of September, I joined other local and national businesses and charities for the first Oxford Deaf Festival at Oxford's Town Hall!

Set-up and led by Action Deafness, the festival included lectures, workshops and stalls, with free entry for all.

I was there promoting my BSL courses and selling my hearing tech jewellery. I met so many new people and had plenty of conversations - in BSL and English! My hearing aid and cochlear implant jewellery chains were a big hit, too.

One of the highlights was meeting Matthew Gurney, the lead actor of the bilinguial BBC miniseries, 'Reunion'. He grew up locally so came along to open the festival on the Friday. He was so busy chatting to everyone but I managed a quick selfie!

It was wonderful to see so many people there, including my Deaf Club friends, interpreter colleagues and also half a dozen of my BSL students! I hope this will become an annual event and, if so, look forward to next year immensely.
