Level 3 Certificate in British Sign Language
This qualification is designed to build upon the grammar and vocabulary learnt in Levels 1 and 2. Learners will be able to understand and use varied BSL in a range of work and social situations.
The course is delivered over 95 hours and aims to give students intermediate BSL skills that can be used to pursue a job working with BSL users, or to join in with more in-depth conversations with the Deaf community.

LO1 - Presentation
Use receptive and productive skills to engage in varied social interactions.
LO2 - Conversation
Maintain fluency, grammatical accuracy and coherence in sustained contributions containing varied language.
LO3 - Receptive
Understand sustained signed communication containing varied language.

Lessons are taught using a range of techniques:
vocabulary repetition
games
pair work
group work
practice conversations
practice presentations
watching videos
written homework
Sessions are taught predominantly in BSL with English used only where necessary for clarification.

There are three assessments, one for each unit.
LO1 is a formal presentation by the student that is filmed.
LO2 is an informal conversation between the student and teacher that is filmed.
LO3 is a receptive video to watch and answer questions.
All assessments are sent to be marked by a Signature assessor.

Students are required to have successfully completed the Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language or demonstrate ability to Level 2 standard. Hearing students are required to have a reasonable standard of written and spoken English.

Students who successfully pass the Level 2 assessments can progress on to the Level 4 Certificate or Level 6 Diploma.
